Landguard Fort is the site of the last opposed seaborne invasion of England in 1667 and the first land battle of the Royal Marines. The current fort was built in the 18th century, and modified in the 19th century with substantial additional 19th-20th century outside batteries.
The Fort itself is a stunning building from approach. Enter inside and explore! With life-like displays and hands-on experiences it is great for anyone interested in the history of the local area and families too! With the location being so close to the beach, why more take a stroll afterwards around the nature reserve and explore the true secret of Languard.
Events are scheduled throughout the year so be sure to check the website.
Guided tours and audio tours of the fort are supplemented by an audio-visual presentation of the site’s history, and by guided tours of the outside batteries.
