A great educational and fun day for the family, The Suffolk Punch Trust is located on the Deben Peninsula, in Hollesley, you will find The Suffolk Punch Trust approximately 8 miles from Woodbridge.
Founded to help protect the critically endangered Suffolk horse. The Trust is a working stud farm, breeding horses and breaking horses for work, to pull vehicles for events and for educational demonstrations.
The History of the Suffolk Punch
The Suffolk Punch or Suffolk Sorrel was developed in the 16th century for farm work and gained popularity in the 20th century. Characterised by their solid stocky appearance and chestnut colour the breed they truly are a sight to behold.
As agriculture became increasingly mechanised sadly the breed almost disappeared completely in the middle of the century.
Planning your day
Visit the farm – not only will you be treated to meeting the horses on a visit to The Suffolk Punch, but the working farm also looks after Red Poll Cattle, Suffolk Sheep, Ixworth Chicken, Chequer Bantams and Silver Appleyard Ducks. Head over the the Pet Paddock to meet rabbits, goats and guinea pigs.
Discover The Heritage Museum – learn about rural Suffolk life by wandering through two large buildings at the Trust including lots of small items and old agricultural machinery.
Take a tractor ride – around the farm learning about the Trust as you go.
Explore on foot – take one of the three marked walks around the farm and get a closer look at all of the animals.
Watch demonstrations – led by the expert staff and learn about how the animals are cared for.
Play – visit the covered play area with ride on animals and tractors and head to the outdoor adventure playground for fun for all ages.
Treat yourself – to a scrummy slice of cake and a coffee at the cafe and a gift to remind you of your visit.
Tickets are £9 for adults, £5 for over 5 and Free for under 5’s. A family ticket costs £22 and discounts are available for senior citizens and students. Annual passes are also available. Head to the website for more information.
