As we head into a sunny bank holiday, it’s the perfect time visit the beautiful market town of Woodbridge. Here’s our guide to the perfect summer day out:
Park by the park!
Head to down Cherry Tree Road toward Kingston Park to park for the day. You may be lucky enough to find free parking along the road (it’s a short walk to the river) or you will find the long stay pay and display down Jetty Lane.
Brunch by the river
Head to The Tea Hut on the river for a good cup of coffee and a bacon and egg sandwich. With lots of seating in the sun and a boating lake to entertain the kids it’s a great starting point to explore the town.
Stroll along the riverside
Famous for its historic Quay and riverside, when the sun is shining, a stroll along the river Deben is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Visit Woodbridge Tide Mill, which dates back to 1170 and is open to the public. Explore the many riverside paths and look for local wildlife, wildfowl and wading birds.
A spot of shopping
Head up into the town from Tide Mill Way for a browse of the many independent shops. Boutiques line the Market Hill and The Wild Strawberry Café is a great stop for a light lunch or a caffeine top up.
Not a shopping fan? Carry along the river walk to Melton and grab a bite to eat at The Coach and Horses which is great for gluten/dairy free requirements and offers a variety of vegetarian and vegan options.
See Ancient Treasures
After lunch head back to the car and zoom over to one of Woodbridge’s most famous attractions – The National Trust Sutton Hoo. Learn about the Anglo-Saxons, travel the route of King Raedwald’s burial ship and enjoy stunning views across the Suffolk countryside. With a huge multi-million pound investment in the site, you can enjoy the new Sutton Hoo experience, with new exhibitions, installations and a 17-metre observation tower looking over the whole ancient burial ground.
Staying for the Evening?
Venture to The Anchor for great food in a pub environment or The Table for something a bit different. If you’re looking for a real treat the Ufford Crown or Unruly Pig is a must visit.
